Outsider by Vilnes is a powerful musical journey that takes listeners through a landscape defined by themes of alienation, inner struggle, and human despair. The band, consisting mainly of musicians from various parts of Western Norway, is a collective of talented individuals who have found a strong shared expression. The musical style spans from indie pop, folk rock and 60s/70s brit-pop. At times there is even a hint of dark and theatrical broadway vibes, but what really makes the album stand out is the honest and raw delivery of the emotions behind the lyrics. 

The album explores the darker sides of life, with several songs capturing the intense feeling of being on the outside of society. Tracks like "Fish Tank" and "Help Me Out!" delve into the bitter loneliness that comes with alienation, while "Outlaw" and "Loud Silence" approach the same themes in a lighter, almost playful way. Regardless of tempo or mood, the theme of being an outsider ties the entire album together, giving a voice to those who often feel marginalized.

Musically, Outsider strikes a fine balance between melancholic, earthy expressions and energetic, lively moments. The album alternates between deep, introspective tones and bursts of youthful, rebellious energy, creating a rich spectrum of emotional nuances. The collaboration with producer Eirik Marinius Sandvik has been crucial in finding the right sound for Outsider.
