The Violent Years- Blizzard / Sunshine - Ltd LP

After two decades of distinctive and thoughtful songwriting, The Violent Years from Mandal are back with their new album Blizzard / Sunshine, following up their apocalyptic predecessor Via Antarctica (2019). Over the years, the band has distinguished themselves with a deep foundation in Americana, rock and melancholic art pop, and since the early 2000s has released everything from a self-titled EP (2008) to critically acclaimed albums such as Trying to Get Over (2012) and I Blame You and You Blame Me (2018) and the aforementioned Via Antarctica .

Blizzard / Sunshine moves through the changing climate of love – from desperate longing to quiet reconciliation. The lyrics allow blizzards, moonlight, waves and summer gardens to reflect inner landscapes, while concrete moments in urban spaces, in bedrooms and under neon lights give the songs body and weight. It's about losing your footing, about searching for light in the darkness, about being left standing when the euphoria subsides. In the span between cold and heat, blizzard and sunshine, the album finds its core: a subdued, mature and deeply human expression that lasts long after the last note has died down.
