Fälaren - Ljora - LP

Ljora is the debut album from Norwegian folkgaze band Fälaren. Comprised of 7 tracks, traveling between fuzzed out psychedelic shoegaze, jazz rock, folk music traditions and sounds of Scandinavia, “Ljora” is an album where the ambition is to explore the extremes of dynamic range, both sonically and emotionally. Weaving between instrumental landscape painting, improvisation, and storytelling through understated but heartfelt vocals. 

“Ljora”, or a ljore is an opening in the roof, letting smoke out, and light in. The physical embodiment of moving from dark to light, depression to hope, or winter to spring. The lyrics can be seen as ritualistic hymns, subtly and unconsciously positive in their effect on their listener. This dichotomy returns over and over and is mirrored in the musical themes and sounds throughout the album. 

For the recording, the band left Trondheim and went to the south of Norway, where they spent several days recording live performances of the music featured on the album. Recorded in a single room without the presence of any producer or engineer.  Mostly, this album is recorded live, riddled with improvisation and/or happy mistakes. It heavily blends ideas, influences and styles, resulting in something that shows the disparate background of the musicians, and creating a new whole. Additional instruments and vocals were captured later, in Trondheim.
