The very last solo album from our dear (and late) Frank Hammersland, "The Ocean Sleeps Alone Tonight", out October 11, 2024.
The outstanding songwriter, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Frank Hammersland, known from bands such as Pogo Pops and Popium, died on January 20, 2023. Frank was diagnosed with cancer while he was still writing and recording songs for his fourth solo record "The Ocean Sleeps Alone Tonight". Alongside a heavy course of illness, music was as always important and fully present. Throughout his last year of life, he worked hard to finish the album - a record with the sound of Frank's unmistakable pop flair, but at the same time with a rising seriousness that gradually pushed forward between notes and lines. The complex and beautiful album was almost completely finished, with vocals for eight out of ten songs. The last vocal recordings were planned to be carried out in a makeshift studio in the palliative care ward, at a time which unfortunately occurred at the same time as his form and voice took a bad turn - a week before he passed away. Following Frank's clear wish, it was Marte Wulff and Sergeant Petter who were given the voice for the last two songs.
In the recordings, Frank mostly brought his regular backing band, The Love Connection, with some help from friends from Evig Din For Alltid and others. Alongside Frank Hammersland himself, the album was produced by Bjarte Jørgensen, Vidar Ersfjord and Yngve Sætre.
"It's emotionally hard to feel the great loss while his voice seeps out of the stereo, but it's also so incredibly nice. The best songwriter in Norway delivered completely" Tor Otto Mjelde, NRK P13. '
