Panzerpappa to Drop First-Ever Concept Album Landsbysladder – A Wordless Tale of Village Gossip

Norwegian avant-prog stalwarts Panzerpappa are back – and this time, they’re turning everyday whispers into high-concept instrumental storytelling. Their eighth studio album, Landsbysladder, is set for release on August 22, 2025, marking their first-ever concept album in a career that spans over 25 years.

The title Landsbysladder (Norwegian for “village gossip”) sets the tone for a record steeped in the quirks, dramas, and shifting alliances of tight-knit communities. Across seven instrumental tracks, the band weaves a vivid narrative – no lyrics needed – of secrets that travel fast and moods that change even faster.

Musically, the album flows between warm, melodic passages and abrupt, intricate turns, echoing the unpredictable rhythm of rumor itself. “Motifs and ideas recur, transform, and spread – just like gossip,” the band notes. With shifting tempos, harmonic detours, and recurring themes, Landsbysladder plays like a musical game of telephone.

The project also ties together elements from previous releases. Fans will recognize callbacks to earlier albums like Pestrottedans (2016) and Summarisk Suite (2019), both praised for their mix of symphonic rock, Canterbury influences, and chamber-style complexity. A particularly nostalgic thread runs through “Landsbyminiatyr,” which reimagines the original “Landsbysladder” theme from the band’s 2000 debut ...passer gullfisk.

To enrich their sonic tapestry, Panzerpappa has brought on several guest musicians:

  • Rannveig Djønne – diatonic accordion

  • Silje Hveem Lofthus – flute

  • Håkon Stene – tuned percussion

  • Håkon Børve – contra-alto clarinet

  • Ståle Storløkken – synthesizer (Elephant9, Motorpsycho, Supersilent)

Landsbysladder was recorded and produced by the band over a two-year period, mixed by drummer Trond Gjellum, and mastered by Kjetil Bergseth. The album will be available on vinyl, CD, and digital platforms worldwide.
