De Press Releases Powerful New Album!
PREORDER ALBUM HERE!
Andrej Nebb, the legendary frontman of De Press, proves once again that creativity knows no age. After celebrating his 70th birthday with a spectacular performance at Oslo’s Rockefeller Music Hall last year, Nebb has returned with a brand-new album that delves deep into history, rebellion, and contemporary social issues.
Drawing inspiration from the turbulent 20th-century history of the Tatra Mountains, which stretch across Polish and Slovak territories near Zakopane, Nebb channels the spirit of historical rebels. One such figure is Janosik, a Robin Hood-like hero who took from the rich to help the poor but met a gruesome fate—executed with a hook driven under his rib and hoisted onto a wooden log.
“Poland as a country has had a tragic fate—conquered from both the west and east, sometimes disappearing entirely from maps,” Nebb explains. “During World War II, Germany burned down and destroyed much of Poland, looting priceless art and valuables, many of which have never been returned.” This theme finds its voice in the song Reperacje, a haunting reflection on Poland’s historical wounds. Another track, Narvik, revisits the battle in Norway where the Allies fought against Nazi Germany, bringing a lesser-known yet significant wartime story to life.
While the album carries the weight of history, Nebb also takes on contemporary social issues in Lover Lover and Det blir lov, addressing the challenges individuals face in systems controlled by authoritarian powers. Yet, the record isn’t without moments of levity. Tracks like Bede Cie and Nie pude nie bedym humorously explore the complexities of relationships between men and women.
Musically, this latest release leans toward a heavier sound, echoing Nebb’s early years as a musician when he fled Poland for the West. “Back then, I still had five fingers on each hand, and my dream was to buy records by Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath,” he reminisces. That youthful energy and raw passion are palpable throughout the album, proving that De Press remains as vital and uncompromising as ever.
With its potent mix of history, rebellion, and hard-hitting social commentary, this album is a must-listen for fans of De Press and anyone who appreciates music with depth and substance.
The record is set for released 4. April 2025
