De Press Releases New Album: Andrej Nebb Draws on History, Personal Struggles, and Heavy Sound
Legendary musician Andrej Nebb, known for his work with De Press, has just released his highly anticipated new album today. Following a spectacular 70th birthday celebration at Oslo’s Rockefeller Music Hall last year, Nebb shows no signs of slowing down, continuing to produce music that’s as powerful and creative as ever.
This new album finds Nebb deeply inspired by both history and his own experiences. "On this album, I explore the history of the Tatra Mountains, a region between Poland and Slovakia, near Zakopane," Nebb shares. "The area is tied to the story of rebels, led by Janosik, who fought against the wealthy and gave to the poor. His execution was a brutal one, with a hook inserted under his rib, hoisted onto a wooden log."
The album also delves into Poland’s tragic fate during the 20th century, with Nebb’s song Reperacje addressing the destruction of the country during WWII, when German forces not only razed cities but also stole priceless Polish art and treasures that have never been returned.
In addition to reflecting on the past, Nebb also addresses contemporary issues. The track Narvik honors the Allied forces who fought against Nazi Germany in Norway. Meanwhile, songs like Lover Lover and Det blir lov comment on today's social struggles, focusing on how individuals often find it difficult to adapt to the systems created by authoritarian regimes.
Despite the heavier themes, Nebb also offers moments of levity on the album. Tracks like Bede Cie and Nie pude nie bedym explore the dynamics of relationships between men and women, adding a playful contrast to the more serious tones of the record.
The album also marks a return to heavier music, something Nebb attributes to his musical roots. "It may be inspired by my youth as a musician, when I escaped from Poland to the West. Back then, my dream was to buy records by Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath. Perhaps that influence is shining through in my music today," he says.
With this new release, De Press continues to evolve, combining intense historical narratives, social commentary, and a heavier sound that will resonate with both longtime fans and new listeners alike. The album is available now, and Nebb’s artistic journey is sure to continue captivating audiences around the world.
