Celebrated Norwegian prog-rock artist Anders Buaas is set to release his latest studio album, Trollringen, on June 6, 2025. Preorders are officially open now, with the release available as a beautifully packaged gatefold LP on classic black vinyl.
Since his self-released debut in 2017, the Larvik-born guitarist and composer has carved out a significant place in the progressive rock landscape. Known for his intricate instrumental work and rich soundscapes, Buaas has played in several well-known Norwegian bands, produced for various artists, and toured globally as a guitarist for rock legends Paul DiAnno (Iron Maiden) and Tim Ripper Owens (Judas Priest).
Trollringen marks a new chapter in Buaas' musical journey. Loosely inspired by the novel of the same name by Norwegian author Sigurd Hoel, the album draws from a dramatic historical saga involving murder, mystery, and the haunting discovery of an executioner’s block used in an 1833 beheading.
For the first time, Buaas incorporates vocals and lyrics into his work, featuring contributions from acclaimed international vocalists Tanya Wells, Tim Condor, and Miriam Kjølen. The album also introduces a live string section and a soprano saxophone appearance on the title track — another first for Buaas.
“All the songs were written between 2019 and 2025,” Buaas explains. “While there was no concept in mind initially, they ended up fitting the story perfectly. I’ve always focused on instrumental music, but I had some songs with lyrics that hadn’t found a home — until now. This album was the right place for them.”
One standout track, The Balance of Being One, features a special guest appearance by Bjørn Riis, adding further depth to an already richly textured release.
